As a director with an immigrant background, themes related to exile are particularly close to my heart. After exploring these themes in my two previous short fiction films, "The Lives That Remain" (2015) and "If It's Not Love" (2018), I continue this reflection in "Voltige," my first documentary.  

Exile, which entails a rupture with our roots and points of reference, can feel like a leap into the unknown, a plunge into the void. The condition of the exiled is always suspended. For Anna, the protagonist of "Voltige," exile involves, much like the gymnastics she practices, a quest to regain and maintain her balance. It is a constant struggle between gravity and lightness, where each fall pushes her to rise and move forward.  

In my cinematic approach, I always strive to create a nuanced and delicate atmosphere, blending poetry and realism, where the weight of tragedies coexists with the fragility of everyday moments. At the heart of this duality, the humanity of the characters is revealed. Thus, every moment of Anna's daily life becomes an act of resistance, a gesture of self-reconstruction. Like in the sport she practices, Anna must constantly draw on her resilience and determination to find her stability in an uncertain world.
