Spag
Synopsis
As a quiet city reels from an unprecedented act of violence, the shooter’s final words make their way onto the public stage. Between heated radio debates, wild accusations and eroded convictions, Spag examines how words circulate, distort, and shape our understanding of violence and responsibility.

Biography
Louis Brousseau is a filmmaker from Quebec City, now based in Montreal. As a karaoke host, audiobook narrator, and author of math problems, he welcomes art and performance as unpredictable companions who come and go along the way. He sees creation not as a goal in itself, but as a way to occasionally let out what he can’t quite make sense of. His films delve into our shared struggle to experience genuine connection — to show up as ourselves, to let down our guard and accept one another — even though it is all we truly seek. Spag is his new short film.

Mot du réalisateur
Our endless struggle with sincere communication and genuine human empathy always ends up being at the core of every subject I explore.
I come from Quebec City, where the hosts of so-called “trash radio” stations have long felt like larger-than-life figures to me. Miniature modern emperors whose commandments echo through bumper-to-bumper traffic. So when a friend challenged me to make a “Quebec horror” film, they were the first characters that came to mind. These voices that have so often been accused of spreading hate and feeding into an already too wide social divide.
But Spag is not a horror film. The monsters of horror films hiding under our beds are devoid of humanity, driven only by an impenetrable affection for cruelty. And whether we want to admit it or not, these radio hosts are not monsters. And they have a bed.
